Enchanted forest board game review
If players land on a space that that is used by another player, the player has to move back to the starting village. As players move around the board they will land on blue spaces and here they will be able to look underneath the tree located next to that space before placing it back. The item that is found under the tree has to be kept a secret from other players. Once a player knows where the item is located, they then need to head to the castle. Once they land on the key space, they then have to identify the tree that the item is located under.
If they have it right, they get to keep the card for that item. The game is continued to be played in this way until one player collects three cards, they are then classed as the winner. Enchanted Forest Cards; Edition. The components all came packaged in single use plastic too. All acceptable in the s but I hope we are a bit more aware now we are in When I purchased Enchanted Forest for my young family I was inspired by rave reviews.
I can only assume, as it came out in , these were tinged with nostalgia. Perhaps, they have only played Trivial Pursuits and Monopoly and in comparison to those, this would feel considerably better. Let me be blunt and clear, this is a poor game, only saved slightly by the components. On this occasion however, I felt compelled to warn people away from this title.
Consider this a PSA! I am now faced with the difficult decision of how to get rid of my copy. I would feel bad giving it to someone, equally bad giving it to a charity shop for someone else to part with their money for it. You make some amazing other board games! If you are looking for a new family board game, keep looking, this is dull and not the board game you should buy!
If you already own Enchanted Forest I am really sorry for you, so if you are looking for other inspiration, you might like these games:. The little trees are cute and the art fits the theme. The rules are quick and easy read. The only tricky part is the movement for the classic play. This simple roll-and-move memory game is light and fun. It was cool talking to my kids about all the different fairy tales and filling them in on the ones they were not familiar with.
When I was looking for clarification on the movement in classic pay I came across an older version of the rules that let you use just one die to get to the key space in the castle. I liked this as it made it easier to get there to guess and bump people off the space. But if you have kids especially young ones you would enjoy playing this with them.

The roll and move mechanics are better than a lot of games since you can use both dice individually in order to have more choice in how you move your piece around the gameboard.
The game feels like it was made for children but it can be enjoyed by adults as well. The game is really simple to learn since all there is to the game is remembering the locations of the items and rolling the dice. Young children should have no trouble playing the game should enjoy it. Basically success in the game comes down to two things: luck and memory. Like all roll and moves, luck is a driving factor in who wins the game.
While being able to use the dice independent of each other reduces some of the luck a great addition in my opinion , the player who rolls best has the best chance in the game. You need to roll well to land on the blue spaces as well as the key space. You could know where the current item is located and yet not get the card if another player reaches the key space before you. Another area where luck comes into play is with the item card that is flipped over. Since you have no idea where the items are going to be located you pretty much just need to guess.
Some players will end up getting lucky by finding the items that are being asked for right away. This gives that player an advantage over the other players that searched a different section of the forest. While good memory and strategy can help you in the game, luck will regularly decide who ends up winning. Other than luck, memory plays a big role in who ends up winning the game.
Unless you are extremely lucky, you need a good memory to win the game. Basically whoever can remember the most items from the forest has a big advantage in the game.
